Description

This year's symposium offers separate workshop tracks designed for high school and college students.

The high school track features workshops that cover topics such as studying techniques, time management, college social life, campus student organizations, extracurricular activities, factors to consider when selecting a college, and an SAT review session.

The college track offers workshops that cover topics such as different pathways after college, early career expectations and financial literacy.

Symposium Theme

This year's symposium theme involves finding passion in your career choice and your dedication to the community. Although traditionally underrepresented groups have entered various business fields in higher numbers, we're finding that few remain employed beyond three years.

Recently, various companies laid off up to 10% of its local workforce that did not perform at the expected level. One reason stated for the lay offs of particular individuals involved a lack of passion for learning the "soft skills" required at the manager level. Additionally, firms felt some frustration when few employees participate in their internal employee groups and in professional organizations. The internal employee groups were created to help develop "soft skills" and retain more employees.
